A festive bird

We're quickly approaching the end of November. Any leaves that were left on the trees have been blown off by last week's gales. The trees are bare and all of the rich colours of Fall have all but gone... not quite a winter wonderland yet, but I'm sure we're only weeks away... With this in mind, I decided to update the old cloche... so, the owl, pumpkins, and leaves have been relegated to the attic and I set about creating a new nature scene to commemorate the season...

Had this been the UK, I'd have definitely popped an English robin in there... Oohh, how I miss the English robin... it's beautiful, red fat chest adorning any traditional Christmas card... I have to say, I'm quite disappointed with it's American cousin... definitely not as cheery, little, and fat!

However, there is a festive bird to rival our little robin... the stunning male red cardinal... I have to say, there is nothing more beautiful than this scarlet bird against a snowy backdrop... With this in mind, I decided to create an American winter scene, complete with my own little cardinal. I'm really pleased with how it turned out... What do you think?

If you're requiring some more Christmas inspiration, pop over to the lovely Melissa... she's hosting a little Christmas Inspiration party... After reading her beautiful blog, I'm ready to get creating...

... and I'm also linking with the Christmas blog Tinsel and Company... They host a Deck the Halls Friday, giving us all the chance to share our Christmas creativity!

... and finally head over to Hooked on Houses for an impromptu Christmas Party!

Wishing you all a great start to the week!

  1. Your cloche looks festive and wonderful...very winter like! It makes me wish we would get our first snowfall like so many other parts of the country! I may regret saying that!!!

    Happy Sunday, my friend!

i have to say this is one good looking bird....considering i now love the little chubby lovely english robin too....
isn't it amazing with such a small change your cloche is now an american christmas scene...with a robin it would be nothing but english....!

i have just spent the day with my british bestie in a christmas garden market....the decorations were divine...& i bought myself two little christmas trees for some old french buckets on either side of the front door...of course i couldn't bring myself to do the dark green lush very expensive ones...more like their slightly more bright green poor cousins!! but i have to say, since potting them up, they actually look just lovely....
will we meet again next monday???

  5. Love the coche.

The cardinal is also the Ohio state bird. We have a family or two of cardinals that live in the flame bushes that line the back of our property. I like to watch them from my back door. They look so beautiful against the snow. I fill my bird feeders with sunflower seeds because cardinals love them so.

I like how you added the red berries. I have a tree with a red berry-type fruit and the cardinals love to eat them through the winter.

  7. Oh, you've made me feel all christmassy (and a touch homesick for the little fat robin). Great job with the cloche. Just off to have a look at Melissa's blog now, you never know my Christmas decs might be out before Dec 1st this year? X

  8. I just love the cardinal and the blue jay - both were rare where I lived in the US. I have to say when I first saw the English robin, I was shocked to learn it is related to the American one - it is so cute and small and they don't look similar at all.

    Happy Thanksgiving, Laura
