A silver lining...

Hello there,
Well, life has been a little hectic around here. In between lots and lots of beach trips, we have had quite a bit of work done on this little old place... With new roofs, paths, doors, and the usual stripping and painting of junk-store finds, I have been one busy lady...
So, why am I posting here today? Well, the other day we had a whole new roof put on (the constant 'patching up' just wasn't cutting it anymore)... it all proved very messy and there were quite a few casualties in my beloved garden... Apparently, plants don't handle roof debris landing on them very well... Anyhoo, as I swept away the debris and cut back the plants (with a tear in my eye), the hubby reminded me that you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs... Looking on the bright side, I trimmed the broken branches of my David Austin 'Grace' rose and popped their drooping stems in a jug of water in hope that they might open, and at least be enjoyed inside... and this is what I awoke to this morning...

Moral of the story: Every cloud as a silver lining.
Stay chipper.

  3. Beautiful roses, and how nice to wake up and find that they have opened up. Next year they will be even better!!!as long as there is no more building debris. Enjoy these summer days (although I think they have disappeared again in good old blighty!!)

  8. Oh Sweetheart, how delightful to see you here again. I have missed you! Exciting news about the renos but I'm sorry to hear of the casualties. They are divine, though. I must add that rose to Planet Baby's wishlist! J x

  9. I just found your blog through a comment you made on Sarah's ("A Beach Cottage") blog; when I read your "about me", I had to leave a comment, because it sounds like we have had the same journey through life... I was born in the UK; moved to Australia when I was 4, but found love on a trip to the US. I've been living here for almost 20 years now, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

  11. I’m sorry to hear about your plants, Laura. But hey, at least the roof work was all done and you can now relax under a new sturdy roof! How is it by the way? Are you still having some roof issues? Good thing you chose a more permanent solution. Patching up some minor roof problems is good. But if the problem persists, it would be best to have a roof replacement.
